Safe Playgrounds

In contrast to the other child care centers in our community, our playgrounds are positioned to the rear and sides of our building – safely away from busy traffic. We have the largest covered areas for outdoor fun in the community. In fact, our school offers the only full-sized, covered back patio in the area. In addition, our playgrounds are separated based on age groups, with each being specifically designed to include age-appropriate equipment which maximizes the children's safety while providing opportunities to develop gross motor skills and further enhance social development. The equipment used is constructed of the highest caliber, recycled and splinter-free materials and designed to meet all state and national early learning standards for outdoor play areas as well as ASTM safety standards.

Safe Transportation

Transportation is another area in which we take student safety very seriously. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been very clear in its recent rulings that passenger vans do not provide safe – or even adequate – protection for young children. That is why their recent rulings have made it illegal for child care centers to even purchase a new passenger van for the transportation of children to and from school and other activities. The message is clear. Passenger vans are not a safe means of transporting young children - which is why Sunbrook Academy only uses school buses that meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) which specifically protect children in ways that passenger vans cannot. Safe & Healthy Indoor Environment

We take great pride in our building access security and student check-in procedures, all of which are computer-based for ease of tracking and updating. Once inside our campus, you’ll find a number of hand washing stations – some water-free – to aid in germ control. Our “TLC” room allows for students to have a quiet place to rest in the event they are not feeling well, while at the same time reducing the possibility of sharing sickness with other students. This is another health and safety feature you will find in few of our competitors. In our infant classrooms, teacher workspaces are separated from the student areas to ensure the safe handling and separation of supplies, foods, ointments and medicines.
